    AGL Energy has shut its Liddell coal power station, ending fossil fuel generation from the site after 52 years, in the first major test of how the energy grid deals with huge change.

    The closure comes amid heightened concern about the pace of developing new renewable energy generation alongside the rapid closure of fossil fuel generation.
